Highway 101 is a browser zombie game about escaping a town overrun by the dead: a top-down shooter with click-to-shoot aiming, real flashlight shadows, twelve guns, safe rooms with their own music, fifteen districts and four bosses on the way to the on-ramp.

Free, no download, no sign-up. This is the standalone build — the full version on paradrew.com keeps a leaderboard for the community.

How to play

  • Shooting. Only the left mouse button fires: it hits where the cursor is and keeps firing while you hold it. Casey never shoots on her own, and a miss costs exactly what a hit costs. On a phone, a short tap on the board or the fire button under your thumb does the same and aims at the nearest one for you.
  • One gun. She carries exactly one, and it is everything you have until the next safe room. The others wait there — swap any time. A crate with somebody else’s gun turns up in two districts out of three.
  • Dash. A short burst with a moment of invulnerability — the way out of a biker’s charge or a popping clown. A second and a half of cooldown.
  • Districts. A district is a stand: two waves at the start, four by the finale. The exit sits on a random crossroads and only lights up green once the street holds; some streets are blocked by wrecks.
  • Light is real. The flashlight, street lamps and burning cars are cast as rays, and buildings throw shadows. Around a corner nobody is visible — neither to you nor to them.
  • Money and rounds. Cash drops off the residents and lies around the streets; it is only spent in a safe room. Rounds never drop from bodies — you find them on the streets and buy them at the counter.
  • Safe house. Every district has one: workbench, outfits, notes, the payphone. Walk in even mid-fight and the street waits exactly as you left it. It is also the save.
  • Death and perks. Death ends the run and takes the money and bought guns; what you found stays. Reach the highway and Casey keeps an outfit and a perk for good — perks stack, so the fifth run starts as a different game.
  • Bosses arrive with the final wave of districts five, nine, twelve and fifteen, each with his own trick.
  • Tapes. Five lie in the streets, each found once, after the street beats its first wave. A tape swaps the street’s music for good.
